The Lagos State Government has announced the intermittent closure of Eko Bridge for 18 weeks, starting on Monday, September 16, 2024, to allow for emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The repairs will be done in four phases, and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes to reduce delays and inconvenience.
According to Transportation Commissioner Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, drivers traveling from Funsho Williams Avenue to the Island can use the service lane at Alaka to reach Costain and access Eko Bridge.
Other alternative routes include using Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and Apongbon, or taking Apapa Road via Costain to reach Oyingbo and Adekunle for access to the Third Mainland Bridge.
For motorists heading to Surulere, it’s suggested to connect through Costain to Breweries, leading to Abebe Village, and then to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.
The Commissioner also assured that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will be stationed at the repair sites and along alternative routes to help ease traffic and minimize inconvenience.
