The Trump campaign confirmed on Sunday that former President Donald Trump is safe following nearby gunshots, though no further details were provided by campaign spokesman Steven Cheung.
A person has been detained in connection with the incident at Trump International Golf Club, according to a law enforcement source. Multiple reports indicate that Secret Service agents fired at the suspect, who was believed to be armed and potentially targeting Trump.
A long gun was recovered at the scene.
Trump had been playing golf at the club in West Palm Beach, which was immediately locked down.
The Secret Service, in collaboration with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation and expressed relief that Trump is unharmed. Harris condemned the violence in a statement on X, while both Biden and Harris are being kept updated on developments.
