A recent YouGov poll suggests that Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris may have had unintended consequences.
According to the poll, only 8% of voters said they were more likely to vote for Harris because of Swift’s support, while 20% indicated they would be less likely to vote for her.
Swift shared her endorsement on Instagram following the Trump-Harris debate, urging her 284 million followers to vote, resulting in significant traffic to the voter registration website.
Despite this surge in engagement, the majority of voters (66%) reported that the endorsement would not influence their voting decisions. The Harris campaign did not coordinate with Swift on the endorsement and only became aware of it after her Instagram post.
Celebrity endorsements have had mixed results in past elections; for example, Oprah Winfrey’s support was influential in Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, but other celebrity endorsements have had little effect on voter behavior.
The poll also indicated that Harris performed well in the debate, with 46% of respondents declaring her the winner, while 19% thought Donald Trump won. However, only 6% said the debate had changed their voting decision.
