Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, sustained minor injuries on Tuesday due to the explosion of an electronic pager, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.
The blast is part of a series of pager explosions throughout Lebanon. Fars reported that Amani’s injuries are superficial and he is being monitored in a hospital.
Over 1,000 individuals, including Hezbollah members and medical personnel, were injured when their communication pagers detonated, according to security sources.
A Hezbollah official, described the pager explosions as the “largest security breach” the group has experienced in almost a year of conflict with Israel.
Hezbollah, a significant Lebanese Islamist militia and political faction supported by Iran, is a staunch opponent of Israel.
