This claim comes despite Trump’s own history of provocative rhetoric and calls for the prosecution of his political opponents.
With the election just 50 days away and early voting already underway in some areas, this year’s presidential race has been marked by significant turbulence, even before the reported assassination attempt on Sunday. Trump, who was unharmed in the incident in Florida, commended the Secret Service for their protection but continued to blame his rivals.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Trump said, “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones who are destroying it—both from within and outside.”
