Uber has introduced new app features aimed at enhancing user safety.
Starting Wednesday, the company will roll out a new rider verification process nationwide, while its “Record My Ride” feature, which allows drivers to record video and audio during trips, is already available following a successful pilot.
According to an Uber announcement, the rider verification process will be streamlined for most users, who will be automatically verified. For those needing manual verification, users can upload a photo of their ID and a selfie through their profile to confirm their identity, resulting in a blue checkmark on their account.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi compared the new feature to TSA PreCheck, suggesting it will enhance safety, especially for late-night rides.
Verified riders may experience faster service and less likelihood of cancellations, according to driver L. Denise, who noted that verified riders are likely to receive quicker pick-ups.
