The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning about counterfeit soap marketed as “Dettol Health Fresh Soap.”

The manufacturer of Dettol products confirmed that this soap is not legitimate, as they do not produce any product under that name. A consumer complaint indicated that the soap caused skin irritation.

NAFDAC stated that the manufacturer, Reckitt Benckiser Nigeria Limited, has verified that the product is fake and does not correspond to any of their offerings.

Dettol products are commonly used in Nigeria for disinfection and hygiene to prevent illnesses.

NAFDAC emphasized that the illegal sale of unregulated or counterfeit products poses significant health risks, as their safety and effectiveness cannot be ensured.

They have instructed all zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor and remove any counterfeit products found in their areas.

Importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and consumers are urged to be vigilant and ensure that medical products are sourced from authorized suppliers, checking for authenticity and condition.

Consumers and healthcare professionals should report any suspected counterfeit products to NAFDAC at 0800-162-3322 or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.

Additionally, reports of adverse reactions related to medicinal products can be made to NAFDAC offices, through their website, or via the Med-safety app available for download on Android and iOS.
