Nigerian music star and philanthropist, Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, known as DJ Cuppy, has made history as the first Nigerian to lead the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
She moderated the 2024 UNGA Youth Action Day, themed “The Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day,” at the UN headquarters in New York.
Her keynote speech energized the Assembly, leading to cheers and chants from the audience, as shown in a viral video.
Following her speech, DJ Cuppy delivered a memorable musical performance that captivated the crowd.
This historic event, which was the largest youth gathering in UN history, had key figures in attendance, including Cabo Verde’s President, H.E. José Maria Neves, and Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary General for Youth Affairs.
Cuppy, a passionate youth advocate, uses her platform to promote education and empowerment through her foundation, striving for a sustainable and inclusive society.
Cuppy also hinted at her political aspirations during the event, expressing her ambition to become Nigeria’s first female president.
This drew a supportive comment from UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, who said, “You told me you wanted to be Nigeria’s first female president, and what did I say? After me.”
The exchange highlights the increasing push for female leadership in Nigeria, with Cuppy encouraging young people to take action on global issues, reaffirming her dedication to championing change.
