Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor of North Carolina and current lieutenant governor, faced a significant setback when four key aides resigned from his campaign. This occurred shortly after CNN revealed controversial past comments attributed to Robinson, including calling himself a “black NAZI” and suggesting the reinstatement of slavery on a pornography website.
Despite denying these remarks, Robinson acknowledged the resignations of his campaign manager, finance director, deputy campaign manager, and senior advisor, without explaining the reasons for their departure.
With 45 days left until the election, he is competing against Democratic candidate Josh Stein, the state’s attorney general.
Robinson, endorsed by Trump, has a history of making inflammatory statements but refuted the recent allegations, claiming they were fabricated and not reflective of his character.
The controversial posts, linked to his social media accounts, were reported to contain offensive language and proposals that were later removed from the website.
While the North Carolina Republican Party expressed support for Robinson, Trump, who had previously praised him, did not mention him at a recent rally, further complicating Robinson’s campaign dynamics.
