The government has suspended officers at the Kirikiri Custodial Centres in Lagos after an audio leak exposed that Bobrisky, sentenced to six months in jail, was given an apartment outside the facility.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), disclosed this in an official statement released on Thursday in Abuja. This followed the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s, launch of an investigation into the allegations on Wednesday.
Ahmed stated that the officers’ suspension is intended to facilitate a thorough investigation, with the findings to be made public once completed.
He said: “Following the viral video on social media alleging misconduct by Nigerian Correctional Service Officers involving Mr. Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has immediately suspended the following Senior Officers:
“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos.
“The Board has also suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to an outside location.
“In a related incident, the Board has also suspended another Senior Officer, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kuje, Abuja, for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.”
