Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, remarked that Catholic Americans who intend to vote for Kamala Harris should “have their heads examined.” This statement follows similar comments he made regarding Jewish voters.
On Monday, Trump announced he would attend this year’s Al Smith charity dinner, while Harris’s team indicated she would skip the event to concentrate on her campaign, breaking from presidential custom.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump expressed disappointment over Harris’s decision not to attend, questioning her stance toward Catholics. He claimed that Catholics are being persecuted by the current administration, stating, “Any Catholic that votes for Comrade Kamala Harris should have their head examined.”
Previously, at a Washington, D.C. event addressing antisemitism, Trump had made a comparable remark about Jewish voters, suggesting they should also have their heads examined if they supported Harris. He further asserted that if he were to lose the election, Jewish voters would play a significant role in that loss.
Trump frequently addresses Christians and Jews who do not back him, positioning himself as their ally against the Democratic Party, which he has labeled as “anti-Catholic.”
He continues to assert that Catholics face persecution under President Biden, despite Biden’s own Catholic faith.
