Edo State’s Governor-Elect, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed his willingness to collaborate with anyone interested in supporting his administration.
After receiving his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, Okpebholo mentioned that he is still awaiting a congratulatory message from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
The electoral commission reported that Okpebholo, representing the All Progressive Party, won with 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes.
The newly elected governor is open to working with the opposition if they offer valuable suggestions for the state’s improvement. He stated, “I’m coming as a servant to serve the Edo people. That is what is required of me, and I will deliver on that. You will soon see significant development in Edo.”
He mentioned plans to hire teachers and renovate schools, emphasizing that positive changes are forthcoming. Okpebholo also remarked on the importance of recognizing the election outcome, saying, “If they have a good idea that resonates with the people, then my door is open to everyone. They should understand that this has happened; I would have accepted it had I lost and would have already congratulated the winner. So, I expect them to congratulate me as well.”
