A troubling incident in Surulere, Lagos, has come to light involving the alleged extortion of ₦1 million from three members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by police officers. Oluyemi Fasipe shared videos of the encounter on X (formerly Twitter).
In the footage, officers are seen checking the corps members’ vehicle documents, but the situation escalated quickly. More police arrived, threatening the occupants. One officer even entered their car, blocking them from recording or reaching out to others, and ordered them to conceal their phones to intimidate them.
Fasipe tweeted: “Dear @BenHundeyin, your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from 3 corps members. They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed. Their only offense was not having a physical copy of a driver’s license. This is evil!”
The incident has provoked significant online outrage, with many condemning the police’s actions and demanding accountability.
