Billionaire investor Mark Cuban warned Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday against aligning himself with former President Donald Trump, suggesting that Trump may not fulfill his political obligations.

Cuban posted on X, advising Musk that there will come a time when he might need Trump, believing he has earned the right to ask for support after being a loyal ally.

However, he cautioned that Musk would discover, as many others have, that Trump’s loyalty is primarily to himself.

Cuban’s warning followed Musk’s earlier post promoting various conspiracy theories regarding Democrats allegedly encouraging immigration in battleground states to secure election victories. Musk declared that if Trump is not elected, it could be the last election.

This shift in Musk’s support for Trump contrasts sharply with his previous criticisms of the former president in 2022.

Cuban’s advice underscores the risky nature of wealthy individuals seeking political influence through presidential candidates.

While both billionaires are on different sides of the upcoming presidential race, they share an interest in regulatory matters. Cuban doubts Trump’s willingness to reciprocate support for Musk.

Cuban has become a vocal advocate for Vice President Kamala Harris and her economic policies, positioning her as “better for business” despite some skepticism about her proposal to raise corporate taxes. He is also eyeing a potential position at the Securities and Exchange Commission, expressing interest on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

In contrast, Musk has proposed creating a government efficiency commission to address federal spending if Trump wins a second term, indicating his desire to lead such an initiative. Trump has endorsed this idea, suggesting Musk could be a suitable leader, although he acknowledged Musk’s busy schedule might limit his availability for the role.
