The Lagos State Government has announced plans to prohibit the use of single-use plastics and sachet water starting in January 2025.
This decision was shared by Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, during a stakeholders’ workshop on October 3, focused on tackling the issue of Styrofoam and single-use plastics in packaging.
Wahab noted that the ban is part of the government’s broader strategy to implement policies for plastic waste management and promote a healthier, more sustainable environment.
However, stakeholders have suggested that the ban be introduced gradually to ensure better compliance and ease economic pressure.
