The Federal Government has announced its intention to evacuate Nigerian citizens in Lebanon amid escalating tensions from the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict. This information was disclosed by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Friday.
Given the worsening security conditions in Lebanon, the Nigerian government has begun taking steps to facilitate the safe return of its nationals.
Abu-Obe highlighted the government’s proactive measures to ensure the protection of Nigerians in the region.
“Due to the intensifying conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the government has started preparing for the evacuation of Nigerians in Lebanon,” Abu-Obe stated.
He mentioned that the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has been consistently providing safety updates to the Nigerian community and had previously recommended voluntary evacuation while commercial flights were still an option.
Nigerian citizens in southern Lebanon have already been moved to safer locations, including Beirut, in partnership with community leaders.
The spokesperson also assured the public that no Nigerian lives have been lost since the conflict began and reiterated the government’s dedication to safeguarding all its citizens.
“The government is actively collaborating with relevant stakeholders and is committed to protecting Nigerians in Lebanon. Arrangements are being made to bring them back home,” Abu-Obe said.
These actions by the Federal Government underscore its ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of its citizens amid the escalating unrest in the Middle East.
