The Akwa Ibom Police Command has reported a fire at the office complex of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in Uyo on Saturday, assuring that the electoral materials for the upcoming elections were not damaged by the fire.
John explained that the fire was started by “some hoodlums” who partially set the AKISIEC office ablaze, but he stressed that crucial election materials remained safe and that the electoral process continues.
In light of the incident, police have increased security at all AKISIEC offices and other important locations across the state to maintain a secure environment for the elections.
