Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s management of the fuel subsidy crisis, calling him “TPain” in a tweet on Thursday.
Atiku linked Nigeria’s current economic difficulties to what he described as the Tinubu administration’s “haphazard and disingenuous approach” to fuel subsidy management.
In his statement, Atiku expressed concern about the rising inflation rate and its severe effects on the Nigerian populace. He lamented that, despite the increasing hardships, Tinubu seems indifferent to the struggles of the citizens.
“The disorganized and insincere handling of fuel subsidies by the current administration is the cause of our economic crisis. As it stands, inflation will continue to rise, undermining the well-being of Nigerians. It is even more troubling that T-Pain is unaffected by the country’s difficulties,” Atiku wrote.
The nickname ‘TPain’ for Tinubu, a play on the initial of his name and the American rapper T-Pain, emerged out of frustrations over the rising cost of living during his presidency. It gained popularity on social media, especially after a user on X referenced it during a discussion about the President’s visit to Maiduguri to comfort flood victims on September 16. The term has since circulated widely on platforms like X and Instagram.
