Simon Cowell is stepping back from recording ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ following the news of Liam Payne’s death.
The former One Direction singer died on October 16 after falling 45 feet from the third floor of Buenos Aires’ Casa Sur Hotel, shocking fans everywhere.
According to reports, production on the show was halted immediately after Liam’s death and will resume with Bruno Tonioli stepping in for Cowell during this time of mourning.
Cowell first mentored Payne when he auditioned for ‘The X Factor’ in 2008, and again in 2010, which led to the formation of One Direction.
In the band’s seventh season, Liam joined Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, contributing to five studio albums, including one released after Zayn’s departure, before the group went on hiatus in January 2016.
Cowell is said to be “shocked and devastated” by the loss. A source revealed that the news has deeply affected him, stating that he “adores Liam” and was very close to his family. Cowell believes it wouldn’t be appropriate to continue filming at this time and doesn’t feel he will be in the right frame of mind when recording resumes on Saturday.
As Simon grieves for his friend, his fellow judges, including KSI, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden, along with crew members, have been very supportive.
