Four people have died and twelve others, including children, have been injured in a tragic multi-vehicle collision on a motorway in northern Poland.
The incident occurred on the S7 expressway when a lorry reportedly collided with a car, leading to a chain reaction involving 18 cars and three trucks. The crash happened early Saturday on the motorway section leading to the coastal city of Gdynia.
Authorities confirmed that children were among the victims, and the lorry driver, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on the spot.
Karol Kościuk, a spokesperson for the Pruszcz Gdański district police, indicated that initial investigations suggest the driver may have rear-ended another vehicle, prompting the fatal pile-up. He added that the driver was tested for sobriety and found to be sober, but his blood has been sent for further toxicological testing.
While police continue their investigation, the affected section of the S7 remains closed to traffic, with disruptions expected to last until lunchtime local time.
