Hennepin County officials fired a courier after several ballot boxes were left unsecured outside Edina City Hall. The incident, caught on video, showed the van’s back door open for eight minutes.
Officials confirmed that no ballots were tampered with, calling the boxes “sealed transfer cases.”
Auditor Daniel Rogan emphasized that election security is critical, and the county will improve its transfer protocols.
Political science professor David Schultz criticized the situation as “sloppy,” highlighting concerns with the chain of custody. Despite the lapse, all ballots were accounted for, with officials confirming a 100% match with state records.
