NinaWorldNews had earlier reported that Denise Prudhomme, a Wells Fargo employee, was found dead at her desk on the third floor of the company’s Tempe office on Tuesday, August 20.
Prudhomme, 60, had clocked in on Friday, August 16, but did not leave the building, according to Tempe Police.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death as “sudden cardiac death in the setting of myocardial fibrosis,” or scarring of the heart muscle, categorizing it as natural.
Cardiac death, as defined by the National Library of Medicine, occurs when the heart stops or cannot beat sufficiently to sustain life.
Wells Fargo stated Prudhomme was seated in a “very underpopulated area” of the office, and although some employees noted a foul smell in the building, it was assumed to be a plumbing issue. Tempe Police’s initial investigation showed no signs of foul play.
After Prudhomme’s death, Wells Fargo expressed condolences to her family, stating they were “deeply saddened” and committed to supporting her loved ones and ensuring employee well-being. The company also began reviewing internal safety procedures and made counselors available to employees.
A union representing Wells Fargo workers criticized the company, highlighting that Prudhomme was the sole team member in Tempe, which may have contributed to her death going unnoticed. They argued the incident illustrated a disconnect between surveillance practices and employee oversight.
Although Prudhomme wasn’t a union member, the union’s director confirmed their concerns.
Wells Fargo reiterated its sympathy and encouraged employees to voice any concerns.
