On Friday, the Federal Government paid only one month’s worth of the four months of withheld salaries for the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), despite previous claims that the full amount had been disbursed.
Falowo Olushola, Chairman of SSANU’s University of Ilorin branch, shared in a phone interview with DAILY POST on Saturday that union members had anticipated 50 percent of the four months’ salaries, equivalent to two months, but received only one month’s pay.
He stated that the strike by the unions would continue until all demands were met, unless directed otherwise by the unions’ national headquarters.
Olushola expressed disappointment in the government’s handling of the presidential order, issued last year, to release the withheld salaries.
The unions initiated an indefinite strike last week to demand the full payment of the four months’ owed wages.
