The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has removed federal universities and other tertiary institutions from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed this change, following a directive from the government to remove these institutions from the IPPIS payment system.
In an interview with The Nation, OAGF’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, stated that shutting down the IPPIS for federal institutions was a natural outcome of the government’s decision.
Salaries for November will now be processed through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS). Mokwa noted that federal institutions must prepare payrolls in Excel format and submit them to IPPIS for verification.
Addressing concerns over salary account changes, Mokwa clarified that the OAGF has not instructed employees to change financial institutions associated with their IPPIS accounts. He emphasized the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and reassured employees that any changes to salary accounts are voluntary, with no mandatory directive from the IPPIS office.
Mokwa also urged financial institutions to enhance their services to manage salary accounts effectively.
Employees wishing to change their salary accounts for valid reasons should follow official OAGF procedures to avoid payroll issues.
