The Kaduna state government has reunited 39 minors, previously detained for their involvement in the #Endbadgovernance protest, with their families.
At a ceremony held at the Children’s Homes on Katuru Road in Kaduna, each child was given N100,000 and an Itel A18s smartphone by the state government.
Governor Uba Sani pledged ongoing support for the children’s reintegration, committing to provide rehabilitation and empowerment programs aimed at helping them become responsible and law-abiding citizens.
Representing the governor, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, shared that the governor directed him to collect credentials from those with tertiary education. Meyere noted, “The Governor assured that some will receive start-up capital for trade, others will undergo skills training, and a few will be offered jobs.”
The government plans to monitor each child’s behavior, offering further benefits to those who demonstrate positive conduct. Contact details, such as addresses and phone numbers, were recorded for tracking and follow-up.
Following their release, the minors received medical check-ups and psycho-social counseling aimed at personal growth and community engagement. Religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities also provided guidance, stressing the value of faith and the risks of negative influences.
Meyere added that the children received new phones, as their previous ones had been lost in detention, and that “the Governor generously awarded each child N100,000 as a gesture of goodwill.”
