The Canadian government has announced the cancellation of the 10-year multiple-entry visa for Nigerians and citizens of other countries.
This move is part of the government’s strategy to manage immigration following a population increase after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously, the multiple-entry visa allowed holders to travel freely in and out of Canada. However, an update from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) revealed that the 10-year multiple-entry visa is no longer considered the “standard document.”
The IRCC clarified that immigration officers now have the authority to decide whether to issue single-entry or multiple-entry visas, as well as determine their validity periods. Additionally, the IRCC recently revised its permanent resident targets, lowering the 2025 goal from 500,000 to 395,000.
The target for 2026 is now 380,000, and for 2027, Canada plans to admit 365,000 permanent residents.
