Before the election, Madonna had publicly supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, even returning from Paris to vote. She had also defended Harris from sexist and racist criticism after the 2020 vice-presidential debate. Madonna called Harris a smart and compassionate leader, standing for justice and equal rights.
