International aid organizations stated that Israel missed a U.S.-set deadline to improve the humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
On October 13, the United States urged Israel to take steps to increase aid to Gaza within 30 days or face possible restrictions on U.S. military aid.
According to eight aid groups, including Oxfam, Save the Children, and the Norwegian Refugee Council, Israel not only failed to meet these criteria but worsened conditions in Northern Gaza, where Israeli forces have been advancing to prevent Hamas fighters from regrouping.
Global food security experts issued a rare warning last Friday, cautioning that northern Gaza faces imminent famine unless urgent action is taken.
Louise Wateridge, a Senior Emergency Officer for UNRWA, reported that aid trucks have decreased, with no food allowed into northern Gaza for a month.
She expressed frustration, saying that “anything that happens now is already too late,” as countless lives have been lost due to inadequate aid and continuous bombings.
Israel claimed it had met most of the U.S. demands, with some measures still under discussion for safety reasons.
They also reported that hundreds of food and water packages were sent to northern Gaza in a coordinated effort. The U.S. has yet to comment on whether its demands were met, though last week, the State Department acknowledged Israel’s increased aid efforts while noting the humanitarian crisis remains largely unresolved.
