The world’s top football clubs will learn their group-stage matchups for the first-ever 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in a December 5 draw in Miami.
The draw, set to begin at 1800 GMT, will organize the clubs into eight groups of four for the tournament, which will be held in the U.S. from June 15 to July 13.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino recently revealed that Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will open the competition on June 15 at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.
This expanded tournament is set to occur every four years, though a host for the 2029 edition hasn’t been named yet.
The top two teams from each group—16 in total—will advance to the knockout rounds, culminating in a final but with no third-place match.
Unlike the previous seven-team format, the revamped tournament will feature 32 teams, including top clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
The expansion, however, has sparked criticism due to the additional strain it could place on players, and FIFA has yet to secure any broadcasting deals.
