Donald Trump Jr. claimed on Sunday that the latest U.S. aid to Ukraine is part of an effort to ignite World War 3 before his father, President-elect Donald Trump, takes office in January. This statement came in response to news that President Joe Biden had authorized Kyiv to use U.S.-made long-range missiles to strike inside Russia.
In a tweet, Trump Jr. accused the Military Industrial Complex of wanting to escalate tensions before his father has the opportunity to “create peace and save lives.”
Russian state news agency TASS quoted Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who warned that Biden’s decision—although not officially confirmed by the U.S.—could heighten tensions between Russia and the U.S.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously stated that U.S. authorization of long-range missiles would signify NATO’s direct involvement in the war.
President-elect Trump has pledged to end the war shortly after taking office, though he has not provided specifics on how he plans to do so.
His running mate, Vice President-elect JD Vance, proposed a peace plan in September similar to Putin’s, which would require Ukraine to give up occupied territories and remain neutral, leaving much of the country under Russian control without guarantees against further invasions.
Trump Jr. will not be involved in pushing these plans, as he has joined a venture capital firm focused on investing in right-wing companies.
Biden’s decision to approve the use of ATACMS missiles—capable of striking Russian targets up to 190 miles away—came after Putin’s surprise move to deploy 10,000 North Korean troops in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have been positioned since August.
According to sources, some G20 nations believe North Korea could send up to 100,000 troops to Russia for the conflict. Biden’s missile authorization is seen as a way to deter Pyongyang from sending more forces.
Earlier this month, Trump praised both Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as “smart and streetwise,” with Putin reciprocating the compliment, calling Trump a “courageous man.”
