President Bola Tinubu left Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the 19th G20 Leaders Summit on November 18 and 19.

The event, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will bring together leaders from the world’s major economies to tackle critical global issues.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the trip, emphasizing the summit’s theme, “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” Key topics will include fighting poverty and hunger, transitioning to sustainable energy, and promoting development.

President Tinubu is set to push for changes in global governance, a long-standing goal for Nigeria.

Onanuga stated, “Nigeria has consistently advocated for reform in global governing institutions and has made a strong case for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.”

Additionally, the President plans to meet with other world leaders to further Nigeria’s economic reform goals in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

Accompanying the President are Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Livestock Development Mukhtar Maiha, and Minister of Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity Hannatu Musawa.

The summit provides a platform for Nigeria to influence global discussions and form key partnerships to support domestic development.
