UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 6:46 a.m. when a masked gunman reportedly shot Thompson in the chest before fleeing eastbound on 6th Avenue.
Thompson, who joined UnitedHealth Group in 2004 and became CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. Authorities suspect the attack was targeted.
Thompson had been scheduled to speak at an investor meeting at the Hilton later that day.
