A flu-like illness that has claimed dozens of lives in southwestern Congo is under investigation. Between Nov. 10 and Nov. 25, 67 to 143 people in Kwango province’s Panzi health zone died from symptoms including fever, headache, cough, and anaemia.
Local authorities are awaiting an epidemiological team to take samples and identify the cause.
Health officials urge caution, advising against contact with dead bodies.
This comes amid an ongoing mpox epidemic in the country. The WHO is assisting with the investigation, sending experts to collaborate with local health teams.
