Rudy Giuliani has missed a court-imposed deadline to respond to a contempt motion filed by attorneys representing Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.
The motion seeks to hold Giuliani in civil contempt for violating a previous court order. The plaintiffs argue that Giuliani’s failure to respond should be treated as an admission of contempt, leading to sanctions that could include further asset seizures.
Giuliani, who represents himself in this case despite having legal counsel in other ongoing matters, failed to meet the December 2 deadline. This came after Freeman and Moss won a $148 million defamation judgment against him, but Giuliani continued to make false claims about them. As a result, the plaintiffs filed for contempt, seeking enforcement of the court’s injunction.
Judge Beryl Howell had previously warned Giuliani that missing the deadline could lead to automatic contempt findings, leaving him vulnerable to additional penalties. Since this is a civil case, Giuliani’s assets could be at risk, and former President Donald Trump cannot offer a pardon for the civil charges. This legal battle stems from Giuliani’s continued defamation despite the court order and could result in severe financial consequences.
