The NYPD has released images of the suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan, including one where the suspect is smiling and unmasked.
The release comes as police continue their investigation into the killing, which they believe was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence.
Thompson, 50, was shot point-blank outside the New York Hilton Midtown early on December 4, just before he was scheduled to attend an investor meeting.
The suspect, dressed in black, was seen in security footage near the crime scene before the shooting, and police believe he fled the area on an e-bike, eventually riding into Central Park. Investigators are using facial recognition technology and examining clues, such as a cryptic message found on the ammunition and personal items left behind by the shooter.
Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that authorities believe the shooting was premeditated and emphasized that the use of a silencer was a rare and shocking detail in the case. Investigators are following several leads in their efforts to apprehend the suspect.
The NYPD has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture.
