South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a streamlined visa process for Nigerian travelers, eliminating the need for passport submission for tourist visa applications.
Speaking at the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, which Nigerian President Bola Tinubu attended, Ramaphosa emphasized efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Ramaphosa highlighted the introduction of a five-year multiple entry visa for qualifying Nigerian businesspeople, aimed at boosting travel and trade. He also pledged to address barriers to investment and support businesses operating across both countries, emphasizing the need to foster economic cooperation as the two nations mark 30 years of diplomatic relations.
South Africa’s leader praised Nigeria’s business reforms, which encourage foreign investment, and expressed optimism about increased Nigerian investment in South Africa. He reiterated his government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business and enhancing opportunities for trade and investment.
Additionally, Ramaphosa discussed Africa’s development on the global stage, noting South Africa’s role in advocating for the African Union’s Agenda 2063 at the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit—the first to be held on African soil. He stressed the importance of inclusive policies to ensure equitable development across societies.
