Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, announced her decision to step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) for the 2024 election cycle. This move has fueled speculation that she may be chosen to fill a potential Senate vacancy in Florida, following the nomination of Sen. Marco Rubio for secretary of state.
In a post on X, Lara Trump stated that her work at the RNC is complete and she plans to step down at the next meeting. If Rubio is confirmed for the role, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would select a replacement to serve the remainder of Rubio’s term, which ends in 2026.
Lara Trump expressed interest in the Senate seat, saying, “It is something I would seriously consider.” She added that while she wasn’t sure of the specifics, she would fully evaluate the opportunity if it becomes available.
