President-elect Donald Trump stated he would consider pardons for those involved in the January 6th U.S. Capitol riot on his first day back in office, calling the individuals “living in hell.” He also vowed to end automatic citizenship for anyone born in the U.S., although he expressed willingness to work with Democrats on aiding undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children.
In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump discussed plans to issue numerous executive orders on issues such as immigration, energy, and the economy after his inauguration.
Trump also confirmed he would work on deporting undocumented immigrants, including those with U.S. citizen family members, but suggested his approach would be to send the whole family back together. On immigration reform, he said he would collaborate with Congress on a plan for Dreamers, young undocumented immigrants protected under DACA.
While Trump avoided promising a justice department investigation into Joe Biden, he expressed that political adversaries, including those involved in the investigation of the Capitol riot, should face consequences, even suggesting some should be jailed. He also indicated that any retribution would come from his success in office, not through seeking revenge. However, he did leave the door open to pursue legal actions if individuals “broke the law” during past investigations against him.
