Jamie Foxx made his comedic comeback with his Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was, where he opened up about a near-fatal medical emergency in April 2023.
The 56-year-old Oscar winner revealed he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke, leaving him in a coma for several weeks. The incident occurred while he was filming Back in Action alongside Cameron Diaz and Glenn Close in Atlanta.
Foxx tearfully shared his story, recalling the day he experienced a severe headache before collapsing. His sister, Deidra Dixon, recognized the severity of his condition and rushed him to Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital, where doctors performed emergency brain surgery to save his life.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Foxx credited his family, particularly his daughters, for their support during his recovery, which doctors described as “the worst year of his life.”
Throughout the special, Foxx also infused humor, impersonating celebrities like Denzel Washington and Mike Tyson while addressing internet rumors about Sean “Diddy” Combs. He joked about online conspiracy theories and shared lighthearted moments from Hollywood parties, showing a mix of vulnerability and humor in his return to the spotlight.
