Jay-Z and his attorney, Alex Spiro, have filed a significant extortion lawsuit against Tony Buzbee, who represents a woman accusing the rapper of raping her at an afterparty for the 2000 MTV VMAs when she was 13 years old. In the lawsuit, Spiro claims that Buzbee threatened to fabricate malicious allegations of sexual assault, including multiple instances of rape involving both male and female minors, unless Jay-Z complied with their demands. The suit labels these accusations as baseless and part of a plot to destroy Jay-Z’s reputation for profit, despite a lack of evidence.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Sean Carter, was not present at a hearing regarding his potential testimony in the SEC Iconix-Rocawear case. News later emerged that the woman Buzbee represents had amended her lawsuit against Diddy to include Jay-Z. In response, Jay-Z denied the accusations in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), accusing Buzbee of extortion. He asserted that the public scrutiny of the case had the opposite effect of making him settle; instead, it motivated him to expose Buzbee. Jay-Z also vowed not to give Buzbee any money.
Jay-Z and Spiro have requested an emergency hearing, emphasizing the time-sensitive nature of the matter due to the widespread media coverage.
