Videos circulating on social media show “Wanted” posters targeting healthcare CEOs appearing in New York City, a week after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown. The posters, featuring photos of Thompson and two other healthcare executives, were seen near Canal and Centre Streets in Lower Manhattan but have since been removed.
A TikTok video captured the posters attached to an electrical box with the ominous phrase, “Healthcare CEOs should not feel safe,” along with the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” — the same terms reportedly found on bullet casings at the scene of Thompson’s shooting. The NYPD has yet to comment on the posters but confirmed an uptick in threats against some companies. They are collaborating with healthcare organizations to address the possibility of copycat actions.
Thompson’s death has been described as a premeditated attack, with 26-year-old Luigi Mangione from Maryland facing murder and other charges. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro condemned the violence, stating, “In a civil society, we are all less safe when ideologues engage in vigilante justice.”
Law enforcement remains vigilant as the case continues to unfold, with heightened security measures for healthcare executives in light of ongoing threats.
