Amazon plans to contribute $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, joining Meta, which confirmed a similar donation earlier this week.
This marks a notable shift in the relationship between Trump and tech leaders, as he has previously criticized figures like Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg for perceived bias against his administration.
In the past, Bezos and Trump frequently clashed, with Trump accusing Amazon of harming retail businesses and Bezos criticizing Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric. However, both appear to be softening their stances.
At a recent summit, Bezos expressed optimism about a potential second Trump term, citing the president-elect’s focus on deregulation. Similarly, Zuckerberg has been working to repair relations, despite past tensions, including Meta’s deplatforming of Trump following the January 6 Capitol riots.
The warming relations extend to personal interactions. Last month, Zuckerberg dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai is also planning a meeting. This growing engagement signals a potential alignment between Big Tech and the incoming administration. Neither Amazon nor Trump’s representatives have commented on the developments.
