Jimmy Kimmel humorously targeted Luigi Mangione’s lawyer, Thomas Dickey, following the revelation of Mangione’s identity as the suspect in the UnitedHealthcare CEO murder.
Kimmel jokingly compared Dickey to Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit and poked fun at his questionable media appearances. In one interview, when asked if he’d accept financial help for Mangione’s defense, Dickey humorously responded, “Nah, nah. I probably wouldn’t.” Kimmel quipped, “Okay, so not exactly the OJ dream team,” and mimicked Dickey’s answer, saying, “Nah, I’d rather get paid in donuts.”
Kimmel also highlighted Dickey’s inability to remember Mangione’s upcoming hearing date, leading to his sarcastic comment, “Did Luigi get his lawyer at McDonald’s too?” He joked about the irony of getting a free attorney after committing a violent act in protest of health insurance issues, while those with serious medical needs often struggle to get coverage.
Further mocking Dickey, Kimmel noted that his law office in Altoona, Pennsylvania, seemed underwhelming, remarking, “How is a lawyer supposed to keep you out of prison if he’s working in one?” He showed a Google Maps image of Dickey’s office, located near a Burlington Coat Factory.
Kimmel also expressed his disbelief over the support Mangione is receiving, including fans making threatening remarks to police. He joked about how, if he were ever in a similar situation, even his mother would want him locked up.
