Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced her withdrawal from consideration for a U.S. Senate seat.
Speculation had risen about her potential replacement of outgoing Florida Senator Marco Rubio, whom Donald Trump nominated as Secretary of State, after she stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) earlier this month.
In a post on X, Lara Trump explained her decision, citing “an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement” before stepping away from the opportunity. She extended her support to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in selecting Rubio’s successor to complete his term, which ends in 2026.
Reflecting on her tenure as RNC co-chair, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve during a pivotal election and thanked her supporters, particularly in Florida. She also hinted at a significant announcement coming in January, though she provided no additional details.
Lara Trump was elected RNC co-chair in March, further solidifying Donald Trump’s influence over the party as he pursued the presidency. Alongside her husband Eric Trump and his brother Donald Trump Jr., she became a key figure in the Republican campaign leading up to the election.
