Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, unexpectedly became a fashion sensation after his appearance in a Manhattan courtroom. The 26-year-old attended his arraignment on December 23, facing 11 charges, including first-degree and second-degree murder related to terrorism, and several weapons offenses. Despite the serious charges, attention quickly turned to his burgundy sweater.
Mangione paired the sweater with a white-collared shirt, light grey slacks, and orange shoes. Initially thought to be a $1,000 Maison Margiela piece, it was later revealed that the sweater was a “washable Merino crewneck” from Nordstrom. Priced at $89.50, the sweater is now discounted to $62.65 and is available in six colors, though the burgundy one is sold out.
Social media users quickly noted the sweater’s popularity, with one person commenting, “No fing way the sweater Luigi Mangione wore to court today is sold out.”
Meanwhile, earlier this month, pro dancer Ezra Sosa jokingly mentioned Mangione as a potential partner for the next season of Dancing with the Stars, sharing a TikTok featuring Mangione’s image. Fans humorously suggested the show should only feature contestants who have been arrested.
