A judge has ruled that an Alabama woman, who says she was raped by Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs when she was 13, can move forward with her lawsuit while keeping her identity private for now. However, she might need to share her name later if the case progresses so both sides can prepare.
The judge criticized Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, for filing unnecessary and overly aggressive motions, calling them inappropriate and a waste of the court’s time.
The woman, referred to as “Jane Doe,” claims the incident happened in 2000 after she attended an after-party for the MTV Music Awards in New York City. She says a limousine driver she met took her there.
Spiro has requested that Jay-Z be removed from the lawsuit, pointing out issues with the woman’s story, such as claims about a jumbotron at the event that wasn’t there and statements from her father that contradict her account.
Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently in custody facing other legal accusations, is also dealing with multiple lawsuits from individuals claiming similar harm. His lawyers deny the allegations, calling them attempts to gain money or attention.
The case is in its early stages, and the woman’s attorney has not commented on the decision.
