Starting in early 2025, Ghana will become a visa-free destination for all African nationals, following a policy change approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December. This decision fulfills a pledge made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues and aims to strengthen “stronger ties across Africa,” according to the president.
The initiative is expected to enhance tourism, trade, and travel in Ghana, addressing the challenges posed by restrictive visa policies.
Previously, the country offered visa-free access to citizens of 26 African nations and visas on arrival for travelers from 25 others, with only two African nations requiring visas before entry.
By adopting this policy, Ghana joins Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin as one of the few African countries offering visa-free access to all African passport holders, advancing regional integration and mobility across the continent.
