Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that his extended meeting with the Menendez brothers’ family on Friday provided valuable insights as he reviews the case ahead of their resentencing hearing, scheduled for Jan. 30 and 31.
During a press conference later that day, Hochman, newly elected to the D.A.’s office, shared updates on the high-profile murder case, which has garnered renewed international interest following Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Monsters last fall.
Hochman noted that nearly all the victims’ family members participated in the meeting, and while some have publicly advocated for the release of Erik and Lyle Menendez, hearing their perspectives in person added significant context. “It was a very productive session where they shared their experiences, thoughts, and desired outcomes for the case,” he said.
The district attorney explained that his review will include anecdotal input from the family, decades of trial transcripts, 30 years of prison records, and discussions with other prosecutors and involved parties from the past 35 years.
“We are focused on the resentencing hearing set for Jan. 30 and 31. If there are changes, we’ll provide updates,” Hochman said. “This is a challenging but essential process of thoroughly reviewing the facts and the law to ensure the right decision is made.”
