President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Jan. 3 that Russia launched over 300 drones and 20 missiles, including ballistic missiles, targeting Ukrainian cities and villages during the first three days of the new year. These attacks have resulted in significant destruction of residential buildings, infrastructure, and civilian casualties.
Zelensky also reported that Russian forces continue to strike frontline settlements daily with guided aerial bombs. He emphasized the urgency of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense system, calling for sustained efforts to enhance capabilities such as Patriot systems and mobile fire units. “Russian terror, which remains relentless, demands constant reinforcement of our air shield and its components,” Zelensky said, expressing gratitude to international partners for their support.
The president announced upcoming meetings to bolster air defense measures, including the next Ramstein-format summit of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, scheduled for Jan. 9. This will be the first such gathering since the October 2024 summit was postponed due to Hurricane Milton, which required U.S. President Joe Biden to cancel his foreign travel plans.
