Nicki Minaj has been accused of assault and battery in a lawsuit filed by a former employee, Brandon Garrett, who claims he served as her manager during her 2024 tour.
According to court documents dated Friday, January 3, and obtained by TMZ, Garrett alleges that after an April 2024 concert in Detroit, Minaj became upset upon learning he had delegated the task of picking up her prescription to another staff member.
Per the lawsuit, Minaj called Garrett to her dressing room, where she allegedly shouted at him, saying, “Are you f—ing crazy having him pick up my prescription?” and added, “If my husband [Kenneth Petty] was here, he would knock out your f—ing teeth.” Garrett claims that Minaj then struck him on the face and wrist. He also alleges that hours later, another team member informed him he was being removed from the tour ahead of the next stop in Chicago.
The lawsuit also references another employee, Luke Montgomery, who detailed responsibilities on tour, including setting up dressing rooms, private jets, and hotel accommodations, as well as handling personal requests from Minaj.
Through her attorney, Judd Burstein, Minaj has denied the allegations, calling them “false and frivolous.” Burstein told Variety: “At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations. However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that this matter will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”
Minaj, a prominent rapper known for her breakthrough 2010 album Pink Friday, has faced various controversies throughout her career. In 2024, she was arrested in Amsterdam during her international tour after marijuana pre-rolls were allegedly found in her luggage. Minaj claimed on Instagram that the drugs belonged to her security team and accused authorities of targeting her. Dutch officials later fined her and allowed her to continue her journey.
